THE HEAT
TONI BRAXTON
Laface/BMG Records
Ranking 8/10

Toni Braxton is back on the R&B attack with a predominantly solo album. Her new album, 'The Heat' just might help put your lady in heat with her low seductive vocals flowing like fresh spring water over simple, but appealing beats. This being Braxton's comeback album of sorts, her first since filing for bankruptcy, shows diversity and perseverance.

Toni's style flows mainly R&B, with the exception of "He Wasn't Man Enough." This upbeat first single will woo you with Toni's fluid vocals weaving a tale of cheating leading to a marriage gone wrong. The R&B tracks range with diversity; anything from a romantic love instrumental entitled "The Art Of Love," to the Spanish influenced "Spanish Guitar." The album also features Dr Dre on the intro to "Just Be A Man About It", as well as Left-Eye's rap on "Gimme Some."

I'm sure that this album will gain more and more pop and R&B appeal, as Toni releases future singles. A predominantly slow, laid-back album perfect for a romantic night with a sweet someone or as preparation for a trip to dreamland. But, if you're looking for something with bump-n-grind appeal, then this album will be a disappointment.
